Optimize your job discovery
The freelance space offers incredible freedom, flexibility, and the chance to pursue your passion on your terms. But it also presents unique challenges—especially when finding the right job opportunities.
Whether you’re novel freelancer or a seasoned professional, your success largely depends on how effectively you can find the projects that align with your skills and ambitions. HYVE has been reshaping the collaborative economy by introducing web3 specific features, has never been more exciting — or more complex.
Use all available levers
Freelancers today are operating in a rapidly shifting landscape, where traditional methods of finding jobs are no longer sufficient. With the rise of decentralized platforms, freelancers can now find jobs in a novel and innovative sector, with web3 providing more freedom, security, and control over their careers.
But how exactly can you leverage HYVE's features to optimize your job discovery process? First, it’s essential to make sure your profile is not just complete, but compelling. On any freelancing platform, your reputation is paramount.
Because we value transparency and trust, your work history, client reviews, and overall performance are permanently recorded on HYVE. In July, we introduced the User Directory, a comprehensive database where you can find and sort freelancers based on a variety of factors. Discover what our feature does by reading our last Dev Update.
Optimize your profile for better 'searchability'
Think of your freelance profile as your personal storefront—it’s often the first impression potential clients have of you, and it needs to be optimized to draw them in.
Clients don’t have the time to sift through poorly structured profiles or lengthy descriptions that don’t get to the point. What we mean when we say optimizing your profile for searchability - use relevant keywords. Identify the terms that clients in your niche are most likely to search for, and incorporate them naturally throughout your profile.
For example, if you specialize in web3 development, be sure to use phrases like "blockchain developer," "smart contract expert," and "decentralized application (dApp) builder." These keywords will ensure that your profile appears in the right search results and attracts the attention of clients looking for your exact skill set. Find out more details in our earlier blog.
Create job opportunities through pitching ideas
One of the most overlooked ways to find freelance work is to create your own opportunities. Instead of waiting for a job post to appear, why not pitch custom solutions directly to companies and individuals who could benefit from your expertise? You don’t need to wait for them to realize they need help—you can be the one to show them the solution.
- identify potential clients’ problems - look for companies or projects that might need your services but haven’t posted about it yet. For example, if you’re a Web3 freelancer and you notice a promising NFT project struggling with engagement, pitch them a comprehensive social media strategy or offer to build them a custom token-based community incentive program.
- tailored proposals - unlike responding to an open job post, pitching an unsolicited idea can set you apart: when you approach potential clients with a well-researched and custom-crafted solution to a problem they didn’t know they had, you position yourself as a proactive partner rather than just another freelancer.
- offer trial projects or pilots - if a potential client is hesitant about committing to a large contract upfront, suggest a small, low-risk pilot project; it’s an easy way to get your foot in the door and demonstrate the value you can bring.
We'll soon release a piece on how to pitch to clients effectively.
Sometimes you need to go the extra mile
In freelancing, doing what’s expected is often not enough to stand out in a crowded field. Clients remember freelancers who overdeliver. Simple gestures like offering additional insights, proposing improvements to their project, or offering follow-up support without charging extra can turn a one-time client into a long-term partner.
Another way to go the extra mile is by anticipating potential problems or opportunities for the client, sometimes before they even realize them. Similar to the previous step, a freelancer would identify potential roadblocks in a project and suggesting ways to overcome them before they become an issue, or proposing long-term strategies that align with the client’s broader goals.
